The month of March was all about Character Creation and Development for a full length screenplay, and I must say, it’s my favorite class thus far in my Mastery Journey. In order to develop a solid story, I’ve learned that we have to know our characters as well as we know ourselves.
I am currently working on what was supposed to be a sci-fi horror film, but it is more noir than horrifying. I wanted my screenplay to be science-fiction before I developed characters. When I started writing the profiles for my protagonist and antagonist, the story started to develop into something different and changed a bit more as more characters and their backstories were created.
One of the tasks I had to complete for Character Creation and Development was to tell what three things the protagonist and antagonist read (book, magazine and website). This gives a writer more insight in creating characters and really getting to know them. Hopefully you’re able to get a slight insight from these minor details. Majority of the books they read are not real in todays time, but you should still be able to get an idea of who they are and what they do.
